The Menara
With the minaret of Koutoubia, the Menara contests the title of the emblematic monument of the city.

Built under the reign of Almohades, the Menara is a vast garden of centenaries olive-trees, which was formerly the amorous meeting of Sultans.

The central basin, 200m long and 150m wide, allows the irrigation of the gardens by a very elaborated system of underground drains. A cob wall of 4km long surrounds the garden.

If there is a picture which symbolizes Marrakech, it is the Menara lodge with its pyramidal roof in green tiles, its large basin and the snow-covered tops of the Atlas Mountains in the background.
