Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear colleagues,

Under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom of Morocco and the city of Marrakesh are proud to host the 25th International Congress of Radiology. On behalf of the ICR organizing committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome all international radiologists, scientists, researchers, and healthcare professionals to the event in the beautiful and historic Marrakesh.

Former-President,
International Society of Radiology

The 2008 International Congress of Radiology has two different goals. The first goal is to present the latest advances in medical imaging which will result in providing useful and accurate imaging diagnosis and improving care quality for radiology patients. The second objective is to adopt appropriate strategy that will allow radiology to become accessible to all underprivileged and disadvantaged communities. Because of this, the theme of the congress is: “Towards Efficient Radiology for All”.

For this year’s 25th edition of the ICR, we have planned an exciting program that is not to be missed. Scientific sessions, informative electronic posters, and social events have been effectively scheduled so participants can enjoy a perfect mix of science, technology and social activities without missing out on anything. Sessions will begin at around 8.30 in the morning and continue until mid afternoon. All cultural activities have been scheduled for late afternoon when Marrakesh’s legendary sun has softened.

I invite you to look through the enclosed program of the congress which will take place from June 5th to June 8th, 2008; I am convinced you will come to share my enthusiasm for this historic occasion.

One of the congresses’ highlights will be the inaugural session on June 5th , 2008, which will include speeches and a musical show, and will be followed by the Antoine Béclère conference, delivered by Prof. Elias A. Zerhouni, President of National Institute of Health (USA). The official opening of the technical exhibition will end this inaugural session.

Scientific sessions will start from the first day at 10 am. A special and unique feature of this year’s event is the management of some sessions by continental scientific societies. On Friday, June 6th, sessions will be organized by the CIR (Inter-American College of Radiology) and the ESR (European Society of Radiology). They will be followed by the AOSR (Asian and Oceanian Society of Radiology) and the RSNA (Radiological Society of North America) on Saturday, June 7th. Finally, The PAASR (Pan Arab Association of Radiological Societies) and the FMR (Maghreb Federation of Radiology) will hold numerous meetings and the MASU (Mediterranean and African Society of Ultrasound) will organize its 11th international congress.

The scientific program will enable full exchange of knowledge and experience between participants: Around two hundred speakers from all over the world will deliver about 400 lectures, Prof. Francisco A. Arredondo, will give the Fuchs lecture on Saturday June 7th.

Sessions on key and diverse aspects of radiology, including nuclear medicine and radioprotection, radiotherapy, oncology, and special sessions for radiographers have been arranged throughout the event.

Last but not least, the scientific exhibition composed of 425 electronic posters will be presented throughout the congress.

Do not miss, at lunchtime, the numerous symposia organized by our industrial partners. This year’s long awaited technical exhibition will update participants on the latest technological innovations in medical imaging.

As you can see, we have a great program and fantastic speakers, promising all participants tremendous opportunities to learn. But ICR also provides opportunities to socialize. The social program starts with a cocktail dinner on Thursday, June 5th at 7 pm, followed on Friday, June 6th, by a gala dinner with a magic show in the historical and wonderful Palais el Badii. On Saturday, June 7th, we have organized a Moroccan dinner followed by a traditional folk show at Chez Ali. The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 8th at lunchtime.

We are grateful to the board of the International Society of Radiology for entrusting the organization of this congress to the Moroccan committee. We would like to thank the following scientific societies for their involvement in this event: RSNA, CIR, AOSR, ESR, ACR (American College of Radiology), ARRS (American Roentgen Ray Society of Radiology), ISMRM (International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine), AFIP (Armed Forces Institute of Pathology), Kuwait Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Society, SERAM (Spanish Society of Radiology), DRG (German Society of Radiology), SIRM (Italian Society of Radiology), PAARS, PANRS (Pan Arab NeuroRadiology Society), FMR, MASU, ISRRT (International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists), and the AFPPE (French Association of the Paramedical Personnel of Electroradiology).

Special thanks go to the board of SFR (French Society of Radiology) for its precious help, and particularly to Catherine Prop and her staff for their advice and assistance.

Finally, my warm thanks to the medical imaging companies, whose participation and contributions will help us achieve the promise and challenge of this exceptional event ?Towards Efficient Radiology for All.”

I wish you a very good stay in Marrakesh. Marhaban (welcome)

Kind Regards,

Professor Farida Imani, M.D.
